In
Lawrence, KS there is the hushed whisper of excitement
and anticipation of metallic combat. A local artisan,
Wade "Mad dog" Nachtigall has been quietly
sweating away in his metal shop for some time now.
The terrible fruit of his labor is the Super Heavyweight
Battlebot named Torquemada. The wedgebot weighs in
at 329 lbs. Just under the 340 lb. weight limit and
is pure muscle. It's only weapon is a 70 lb. cowcatcher
solidly mounted on the front of the superstructure.
Wade will be relying on speed along with superior
design and building. Zipping around the battlebox
at 15 mph, Torquemada will be a force with which to
be reckoned.
Going along as sponsor and pit crew is Game Guy Lawrences'
CEO. "I just couldn't pass up a deal like this,"
he said, "how often do you get to get behind
the scenes of something as cool as Battlebots?"
Together, they represent Team War Hippies, a focused
robot destroying tandem that will be at the San Francisco
Tournament that begins Nov. 5, 2001. "I think
we have a chance" says Wade, "the entire
field is wide open." Open like a gaping, oil
dripping wound.
Stay tuned to the Game Guy web site for updates and
new developments in the 2001 Battlebots saga. Will
our heroes be victorious? Will a cruel twist of fate
render them vanquished? You know what they say, "when
sparks fly, robots die"
definitely words to live by.
